The popular energy efficiency initiative, The Green Deal, is releasing a third round of funding to households who want to make their home more energy efficient with measures such as solid wall insulation, boilers or double glazing.
In the scheme, households can claim up to £3,750 for solid wall insulation and £1,250 for two other measures from an approved list. They can also claim a £100 rebate on the cost of assessment of the property.
The assessment needs to be carried out before applying for green deal vouchers, it costs £120. This then allows you to apply online for the vouchers on the launch day of March 16 with a unique code from the report.
This round of funding is worth £70m and is expected to run out within a week, so you’ll have to be quick. The first round of funding in June last year was worth £120m and ran out early in six weeks and the second round in December worth £24m ran out within the day – crashing the website and jamming phone lines.
If you do manage to secure vouchers, then you can employ a Green Deal registered installer like Fineline to carry out the work. They payment process is worked out between you and the installer and you pay with your own money and once the work is complete your installer fills in the vouchers confirming the work has been done, improvements made and your energy certificate is up to date.
This then needs to be emailed over to the Green Deal administrators within six months and they will email to let you know when the claim will be paid – going direct to you rather than the installer. There are also other options such as the Green Deal finance plan or other finance plans through the company.
With the third round of funding released in just over a week, be sure to get those assessments carried out as soon as possible to give you the best chance of securing the funding.
